"Art in the Garden" at San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden during our Spring Garden Festival
Art in the Garden is an opportunity for artists to show and sell their work as well as to introduce the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden to the community. It will be held at the Garden’s Oak Glen Pavilion, surrounding patio spaces, as well as out into the Garden’s display spaces. This will take place during our Spring Garden Festival in conjunction with our semi-annual plant sale; music and food will be available throughout the weekend. The SLO Botanical Garden will be partnering with the SLO Arts Council who will assist with the Artist’s Call, the application process and some publicity. The Spring Garden Festival will be free to the public all weekend.
Fees and Commissions
All applications should be accompanied with a $25 non-refundable application fee. This is a juried art show. If accepted, the space rental fee is an additional $40. The Botanical Garden will also withhold a 30% commission from all sales. The SLO Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Check with your financial professional about designating any fees that you incur as a result of this exhibition as a donation to the garden.
Display Space
- The show will take place inside the Oak Glen Pavilion, the surrounding outdoor patio spaces as well as into the garden display areas.
- Artists may choose to have an indoor space which will include a 5’ round table and two chairs or a booth space in one of the six pro-panel designated spaces (tables will not be provided to the artists in the pro-panel spaces, and these artists will need to provide their own rectangular table up to 6’ long). There are a few interior spaces that will be offered to artists who can furnish their own rectangular table. Outdoor spaces will accommodate a 10’ x 10’ pop-up style booth and may be set up with the artist’s own tent and displays. Those artists who wish to hang pictures inside the pavilion will have a minimum of 6’ x 10’ wall space, in addition to a space to display prints, cards, etc.
- Artists who select the outdoor option may elect to bring their artwork inside in the evening to protect it from theft and weather.
- Every effort will be made to give equitable space to all artists and provide an environment that best showcases all work in the gallery.
- While we want to have a variety of artwork, there will be a limited number of artists who can participate. This is a juried show.
- Applications, $25 non-refundable application fee and digital images due by February 1, 2022.
- Artist will be informed of their acceptance by February 10, 2023.
